Articulating Implementation Mechanisms to Optimize for Impact, Efficiency, and Equity

Part of the BCTR Talks at Twelve series.

Note to attendees: Cara C. Lewis will be presenting virtually, but we will still hold an ‘in-person’ event with lunch where you can eat, watch, and ask questions.

This talk will anchor the audience in a tale of why implementation science, and specifically, the study of implementation strategy mechanisms, is critical for impacting public health, equitably. Key terms will be introduced, and then examples provided for how and why articulating causal pathways can aid in the design, evaluation, and achievement of implementation outcomes. The presenter will end by reflecting on strategic priorities for advancing implementation science, highlighting active funding opportunities at NHLBI.

Learning objectives:

  • Attendees will be able to define key terms/factors implicated in the causal pathway of an implementation strategy
  • Attendees will become equipped with examples of linkages between implementation strategies, mechanisms, and outcomes
  • Attendees will be able to articulate why designing and testing implementation strategy causal pathways can enhance impact, efficiency, and equity

Cara C. Lewis, is the deputy director of the Center for Translation Research and Implementation Science (CTRIS) at the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute within the National Institutes of Health. Lewis has a Ph.D. in clinical psychology with a research focus on advancing pragmatic and rigorous measures and methods for implementation science and practice.
